Karla Merlika : 45 years in captivity
The camp, a landmark and symbol of the horrors of the Enver Hoxha repression has been abandoned and forgotten. This is the site where dissidents and their families where sent as slave labor for the regime. The camp was closed in 1954 after series of epidemics. Here is an excellent article about the camp LINK

Gjirokaster
Here I am in the hometown of the infamous Enver Hoxha. The city was sparred the worst of the regime and has developed into a major tourist attraction with countless restaurants and cafés in the streets of the bazaar just below the castle. Today a museum, the castle also served as a prison for dissidents.
