Day 7: AVIGNON - Citée des Papes!

March 1, 2025: Fontclaire en Provence to Cavaillon (122km, 333m uphill)
This morning (Tuesday April 29, 2025), Cardinals in Rome decided to start the conclave on May 7th, 2025 to decide on who will succeed Pope Francis. Just about a month ago I was in Avignon, in what used to be the fortress and palace and papal residence in the 14th century. As the seat of Western Christianity, Avignon held six papal conclaves between 1334 and 1394. In 1995, the Palais des Papes became recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its beauty and historical significance.
This is also where I stopped for a double lunch treat!
Still hungry... I stopped at Vivotto where you have a massive choice for those with food restictions!
Still thirsty... I visited our friends at Herboristerie Apotek for another mint tea!
